This is a long book about a boy who wants to go to the church, but decides to become an artist, an author. This is a classic, and for that it gets an extra rating for it’s historical significance. I had to do some research about why James Joyce is so important: apparently it’s because he pioneered the style of the omniscient philosophical voice. So that’s interesting, but that voice has become so mundane that it just seems like a normal bok where nothing happens? Long sentences with poetic language are nice. This is a book for people who are into english literature. I get it, sort of. I’ll definitely be coming back to this one when I’m more mature. The priest’s homily about the awful nature of heaven and hell was amazing though.
