I’m a roll cell. I’m also a Richmond Tigers fan. A Newcastle Knights fan. A West Ham fan. After Niko and Monesy’s departure, I tucked myself into the warm embrace of stockholm syndrome with a warm cup of delusion to face the new G2 with the same indifference with which I support my other teams.
It began as that. Then something changed. I looked at HLTV. Matys? Yum. Good showings on some Fnatic games I had seen. No Snax? Years too late. Hunter to IGL and rounding out the roster with Sunpayus and Saw. Hold on. Were cooking here…
And we did.
I wasn’t expecting it to be this quick. Beating spirit in groups was an astounding result. Then beating Faze, the new hot Furia and Vitality on LAN (small stage). This is a legit win in my opinion. We lost to Mouz in groups, but then didn’t see them again. No Falcons and no Mongolz, a lost NAVI out in groups. This is the best you can ask for. At the time of writing we got beat at FISSURE by the Mongolz in quarters. Another win against Furia in the swiss. These are legit results we can build off. I think we can be a top 5 team and play for finals and win maybe your lesser comps (FISSURE, maybe a low ranked Blast, a Starladder an EPL).
It’s hard to say, because I know that Sunpayus is Saw’s guy. However, if this team wants to take that final step, to become the best team in the world, we do need an upgrade at AWP. Sunpayus is a good player, no doubt, but he struggles in some games, and for a top 1 team he can’t be your AWPer unfortunately.
Roll Cells Arrive
This is my dream. 3 Riflers which are the exact combo you need. Matys as the firing aggressive head-shot machine, Malbs capable of floating and balance with support from the god himself. Hunter’s fragging in the last G2 iterations was questionable, for sure as part of the rifle trio. The change of position to IGL just completely updates his positional value as he is now one of the better fragging IGLS (Apex and Blitz alongside). Hunter has had massive impact and can perform that float style similar to Malbs.
You can have Matys entry of A, Malbs entry on B, Hunter float and the mop up by the God. What a dream.
Love at First Sight
I just want him to pick me up and cradle me, just so I know that whenever we are in man down situations he’s going to collect me and deliver a double to me. I want his thick arms to wrap around me and his soft hands to show me how to piece together 1 v X situations.
The Donk Take
I just want to quickly mention my new Donk take on this post too.
Donk has, up until this point, shown no fear on the stage. He has bad games, sure, but when they are on stage, it’s not the pressure. He has an infallible attitude, for now.
Once his frontal lobe develops a bit further, I believe we will begin to see the pressure break him down a bit. When he realizes that not only can he be the best rifler across all CS, he ca be the best player, and the best player in esports, the pressure for more deep tournament runs will begin to manifest in poor performances. I think this is what curses Niko’s ‘choko’ (fake) performances. Every event the pressure is dialled up to 11 for him because he needs accolades and trophies for his legacy. Everyone wants to leave a legacy. I think Donk is happy for now, Spirit seem to be showing signs of wanting to improve their roster. But in a couple of years, let’s check in and test the waters of Donk’s patience.
Final Remarks
The schedule is becoming very busy. The first cross-over event is happening with the end of FISSURE being held simultaneously with the start of Starladder. Only NAVI are at starladder, if they don’t win, theres big issues.
Simple returning is excellent. Looks like he’s grinding. I can’t wait to see him at the major in december.
